Prescription drug abuse has had such an explosive growth in the United States that it has been declared a national “epidemic” by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).[1] Opiates are the most commonly prescribed drug for injuries and pain since they are powerful painkillers. But their chronic use can often lead to dependence, unintentional harm, prolonged disability, and even addiction.

Workers’ compensation claims continue to increase with prescription drugs amounting to nearly 19% of workers’ compensation medical costs. Healthcare costs of cases involving opioid overuse are typically 8 times higher than those not involving opioid overuse. [2]

Reducing costs by reducing opioid use is a complex process. PDI brings a proven solution, RxManagement, to the market that decreases costs while still delivering the highest quality of support and care for drug management.

The Hartford’s Opioids In The Workplace Survey was conducted with an online research panel between Aug. 9-15, 2018 using a nationally representative sample of 2,500 U.S. adults comprised of two groups – 2,000 full- and part-time workers and 500 individuals with a Human Resources role. The margin of error for the first group is ±2.2 percent at the 95 percent confidence level and it is ±4.4 percent at the 95 percent confidence level for the second group. 18-1415

Here’s how RxManagement serves your workers and you:

Peer-to-Peer Physician Contact

We work with addictionologists who review complex medical data of patients on high-risk medications and have peer to peer conversations with the patients’ drug prescribers. RxManagement adopts a collaborative process--where our experts work along with the patient’s current physician—so that there is no discontinuity or clash in the patient’s care.

  • We identify injured workers at risk for narcotic and prescription overuse.

  • Using evidence-based medical data and an A-grade team of medical experts, we establish the most optimal solution to treat the workers’ injuries.

  • We then provide a comprehensive alternative treatment plan that maximizes the patient’s recovery chances while minimizing drug overuse risk.

  • We follow-up with patients regularly and closely oversee the new treatment plan to ensure employees recover from their workplace injury, and reduce the healthcare costs for all parties involved.
